Perseid Meteor Yağmuru - Perseids Meteor Shower

Her yıl takvimler 12 Ağustos gününü gösterdiğinde, dünyamız sonsuz evrendeki yolculuğunu sürdürdüğü bir gecede, gökyüzü yılın en faal görünümlerinden birine bürünüyor.. Çünkü her 12 Ağustos'ta dünya, Swift-Tuttle kuyrukluyıldızının dünya yörüngesine daha önce bıraktığı tozların atmosferimize girmesi sonucu, meteor yağmuru olarak isimlendirilen parçacıkların içinden geçiyor. Her biri, çakıl taşı büyüklüğündeki bu parçacıklar, gökyüzünde bir yıldız kaymış izlenimi veriyor bizlere. Ne de olsa o sonsuz dev yıldızları da birer çakıl taşı büyüklüğünde görüyoruz..

Normal bir gecede, bir saatimizi sabırla gökyüzünü izlemeye versek, görebileceğimiz meteor sayısı bir elin parmak sayısını geçmez. Genelde 2 veya 3 tane görebileceğimiz meteorlardan, Swift-Tuttle kuyrukluyıldızı sayesinde 12 Ağustos günü, gece yarısına doğru görebileceklerimiz saatte yaklaşık 50-60'ı bulabilecek.. Söylediğim gibi, bu yıldız tozları denebilecek parçacıklar çok küçük boyutlu olduklarından, atmosfere girerken yanıp, yeryüzüne ulaşamadan havada eriyorlar. İşte biz de bu yanış sırasında geceyi aydınlatan izleri seyrediyoruz.. Yani hem bize sunulan bir görsel şölen var, hem de kafamıza düşecek bir taş ihtimali yok. O yüzden bu yağmuru izlemek için şemsiyenizi yanınızda bulundurmaya gerek yok..

Meteorlar Perseus'tan çıkıyor gibi görünecek - Meteors flow as Perseus will be their center

İşin şakası bir yana, meteor yağmurları tehlikesizdir.. Ama kuyrukluyıldızlar her zaman bu kadar da cömert olmuyorlar. Bize bu harikulade doğa olayını karşılıksız sunan Swift-Tuttle, gelecekte dünya için potansiyel tehdit oluşturan yüzlerce asteroidden biri. Eğer yapılan hesaplamalar doğruysa, bu dev kütlenin, 14 Ağustos 2126'da dünyaya veya önümüzde bir kalkan gibi duran aya çarpma olasılığı mevcut.. Tabii bunlar henüz kesinleşmeyen ihtimaller..

Bunun üzerinde bilimadamları zaten onlarca yıldır çalışıyorlar.. Bırakalım bu korkutucu senaryoları ve bu geceki şölene geri dönelim.. Peki nasıl izleyeceğiz Perseid meteorları? Öncelikle şehir ışıklarından yeteri kadar uzakta olmalısız.. Böyle bir yer bulmak gitgide zorlaşsa da, imkansız değil.. Gökyüzündeki Perseus takım yıldızı kaynaklı çıkıyor gözüktükleri için bu adı alan 12 Ağustos meteorlarını görmek için bu yıldız kümesinin bulunduğu kuzeydoğu yönüne bakmalıyız. Sırtımızı da yere yasladık mı, değmeyin keyfimize.. Eğer evinizden fazla uzaklaşamadıysanız ise, tabii ki öncelikle bütün ışıkları kapatmayı unutmayın..

Önemli Not: Bu gecenin iki numaralı gökyüzü olayı; gezegenlerin toplaşması.. Yeni ayın üzerinde parlayan Venüs ile birlikte onun da hemen üzerinde Mars ve Satürn hep birlikte bizlere göz kırpacaklar bu akşam..

Perseid Meteor Yağmuru - Perseids Meteor Shower


Every year, when the calenders pointing the August 12th, one of the nights where our planet is pursuing its endless voyage in the universe, the sky is presenting us, one of its most brilliant shows.. Since, on every August 12th, the world is entering the debris of comet Swift-Tuttle.. When we pass through these streams of the debris, the event what we call "Meteor Shower" is happening.. Each of a pebble stone size meteors, giving us the feeling of a star is falling from the sky, -or so called shooting stars- .. Of course, that arises from the fact that we see those stars - the huge gas balls - , in the size of tiny paddle stones due to the gigantic distance.. 

In a usual night, if we look to the sky for an hour with a little bit patience, the toal amount of meteors that we can count wouldnt be more than the amount of fingers of one hand.. Generally we will be able to see two or three of them in one hour.. However, on August 12th, through the first moments of the midnight whereby Comet Swift-Tuttle the amount of meteors we will be able to catch will reach a peak of 50-60 an hour.. As i said before, these very small particles, that we can name as stardust, are burning while entering the Earth's atmosphere, but they are melting in the air and cant reaching until the surface of the Earth.. So that, we are watching the traces of those small particles' burning.. There is a visual fest for us tonight, and the good thing is there is no harm or risk for us, like a falling stone on our head..So, no need to bring an umbrella for the observation tonight..


That was the fun side, indeed meteor showers are not dangerous.. However, comets are not that generous always.. The Comet Swift-Tuttle, that providing us this gorgeous visual show tonight, is one of the huındreds of potentially hazardous asteroids to Earth.. If the ongoing calculations are true, this huge flying object has a potential to hit the Earth, or the Moon that is shielding our planet, on August 14th 2126.. Of course, these are just tentative predictions yet.. 

Scientists are already working on that subject for many decades.. Let's forget these scarry scenarios, and return to tonight's sky feast.. So, how we will be able to watch the Perseids? First of all, you need to be away from city lights.. Although it is getting more difficult to find such places, it is still possible.. Since they seem to be flowing down from a center, where the Perseus constellation is located on the northeastern direction, these August 12th meteors are named as Perseids.. Then, first get rid of the city lights, find a soft surface to lie on, look toward Northeast direction, and enjoy the Perseids..If you can't go too much away from home, just close the lights and try to catch some of them..

Special Note:: Tonight's second important sky event is, the alignment of planets.. You will see the bright Venus shining over the new moon.. Mars and Saturn planets will be also seen around Venus tonight..(Don't forget to take a look the charts above)
