The United Nations Climate Change Summit, 2010 edition will be held in Mexico's coastal city of Cancun, between November 29th and December 10th.. This traditional intergovermental panel, will be a meeting where the important subjects will be discussed such as; the future of our planet, and what measures need to be held to keep the world as a shelter for both the human and the other living creatures..Same as the end of every year, again the earth will face a check-up process and there will be discussions about the diagnosis of its weaknesses and possible treatment methods.. However, to reach a consensus in this intergovermental summit is a very weak possibility due to the reason that each state has a different global point of view in foreign affairs..
Just as the summits of the mountains are extreme points where only the strongest climbers could climb, and we can only see those mountains as much as those strongest climbers show us; this climate change summit alike all other similar international meetings, will result with the strongest states' gain.. For example, the small island nations, such as those in the Pacific ocean, will never be fully entitled in the discussions as same percentage as an industrialized giant such as USA.. However, due to the melting glaciers, one of the unavoidable effects of the possible climate change, those island nations will be the first countries affected directly..
Think about it, the struggle with the nature, of the people living in Funafuti, Tuvalu is kinda part of their everyday life.. For example, in Funafuti, like in the rest of Tuvalu, the land is only 3 meters above from the sea level.. On the other hand, do you think the climate and global changes felt that much in the capital city Washington in USA? During a windy day in Funafuti, the giant ocean waves eroding the shores, and due to the erosion Tuvalu is becoming a smaller land day by day.. At the same time, the salty water coming to the land from the ocean, making the underground waters more and more salty.. In Washington, the felt effect of an ocean wave isnt the same.. When there is no more hope from the underground water, the people living in Funafuti turning their heads for looking to the sky.. Because, with the clean water that will come with the expected rainfalls, the Tuvalu farmers could continue producing Pulaka in their fields..

However, with the climate change the amount of rainfall decreased sharply and it became not regular according to the seasons.. With this dramatical change, there wont be rainfall anymore when it is needed, and it will rain when it isnt planting season for the crops in Funafuti.. If the soil becomes more salty by time, in the future there wont be Pulaka production anymore, which is a crop rich with carbohydrate.. In the Tuvalu culture, Pulaka planting is one of the most important life lessons that is taught by fathers to their sons.. Whenever a young Tuvalu boy learned how to plant Pulaka crops and growing them, then he becomes a real Tuvalu men and he is getting higher respect from the society..

USA, is a state that is one of the top polluting countries for the environment.. In the last presidency elections, the win of the democrats was a big hope for the efforts against the climate change, especially for last year's meeting in Copenhagen and also for this year's summit in Cancun, because of the promises that the democrat party has made before they were choosen.. Although the 2009 meeting in Copenhagen was even named Hopenhagen, arising from the word "Hope", the surprise hasnt realized and the opposition of the US administrations couldnt broken again, which caused a fail in consensus among the members..
When we came to the year 2010, while even Obama administration coundnt do a concrete step in their environmental plans, the democrats lost to republicans in the by-elections.. It was important, and also a bad news among nature savers, because most of the new republican members of the US senate even deny there is a reality called climate change threatening the world.. So that, USA would again oppose the solution, in the Cancun summit..
Cancun, the city built by the Mayan civilization, is placed on the coast of Mexican Bay, where one of the worst naturel disasters of this year was happened; the oil spill from the petroleum platform.. Maybe a little part of the whole the Mexican Bay, but once it was polluted by the British oil company, then they had affected a pollution in the whole world.. USA and mexico, both countries whose beaches were polluted by the leakage, we people living here in Turkey, those ffarmers living in Funafuti; all people are interested to hear the announcement that will come out from the summit here in this Mayan city..I hope, unlike the theories of their Mayan ancestors that says 2012 will be the end of this world, the Mexican authorities will give us good news about how to save the climate of the world..

Gaia, the symbol of birth and the mother nature; and Medea, the symbol of death, who itself killed her own children in the myth.. What will we do now? Either, continue to use fossil fuels, and we will become a Medea each that will destroy the future generations; or we will start to use the renewable types of fuels such as wind or solar energy, to save the planet from the Medeas, and we will become a Gaia each, to leave a clean world to the future generations..
