31 Ekim, tüm dünyada olmasa da, Batı kültüründe Cadılar Bayramı olarak kutlanan özel bir gün. Kökeni Kelt toplumuna dayanan ve hasat döneminin bitişini işaret eden bu bayram, aynı zamanda bazı eski toplumlarda bu dünya ile öteki dünya arasındaki sınırın en inceldiği gün olarak da kabul edilir.. Öteki dünyadan gelen iyi ve kötü ruhların tamamı, dünyayı bu günde ziyaret ederler. O yüzden aileler, ölmüş atalarını, kendilerine en çok yaklaştıkları bu günde anmayı gelenek haline getirmişlerdir. Ama inanışa göre kapı bir kez açılmıştır ve bu kapıdan kötü ruhlar da geçebilmektedir. İşte bu yüzden, tüm o korkutucu kostümler ve de maskeler giyilir Cadılar Bayramı’nda.. O kadar korkutucu giyinilir ki, kötü ruhları bile uzak tutabilecektir.. Atalarının ruhunu anarken, kötü ruhları Halloween kostümleri ile şaşırtırlar ve iyi ruhları rahat ettirirler..
Cadılar Bayramı’nın ilk olarak ortaya çıkışına dönecek olursak, 31 Ekim tarihi Kelt toplumunda Samhain olarak bilinen yaz mevsimin ve hasat döneminin sonu kutlamasıdır.. Samhain, iki dünya arasındaki perdeye hükmeden bir şeytandır.. Yani, ölümlülerin ve ruhların dünyası arasında.. Samhain her 31 Ekim’de ölümlülerin dünyasına geçer ve kendine yeni kurbanlar arar.. Ondan kaçmak için 3 yol vardır.. Giyilen maskeler, Samhain’in ölümlüleri tanımasını engeller. Kapıya bırakılan şekerler, Samhain’i doyurur ve onu uzak tutar. İçleri oyularak gülen yüz çizilen ve de ışıklandırılan balkabakları ise Samhain’i, müritleri gibi gösterip onu şaşırtan birer simgedir.. Ancak bu şekilde Cadılar Bayramı’nda iyi ruhlar güvenli bir şekilde anılabilir..

Bazen düşünüyorum da, insanlık ve üzerinde yaşadığı bu gezegen de kendi döngüsündeki hasat döneminin sonuna mı geliyor yavaş yavaş? Yıl içinde 365 günde bir kez gelen bu temsili gün, milyarlarca yıllık geçmişi olan dünya gezegeni için tekrar gerçek mi olacak, hasat edecek ürünler gitgide azaldığından? Gün geçtikçe gözünü para hırsı bürümüş bir düzen içinde, insanlık bir yok oluşa doğru yol alıyor adım adım.. Bugüne kadar göz ardı edilen gerçekler, hep halının altına süpürülenler, birer birer ayağımıza dolanmaya başladı.

Ancak korkarım ki, bu kez bizi ne giyeceğimiz maske, ne kapı önüne koyacağımız bir avuç şeker, ne de ışıklı balkabakları koruyabilecek Samhain’in şerrinden.. Aç gözlü, paylaşım ve eşitlikten uzak politikalar sürdürüldükçe, önümüzdeki 31 Ekim’lerde sevdiklerimizce hatırlanacak, kapıdan geçmeye çalışan birkaç iyi ruhtan biri olmaktan öteye gidemeyeceğiz belki de…

They are so much scaring that, they will avoid bad spirits to come nearer.. Thus people disguise the bad spirits with the Halloween costumes, and making their ancestors' spirits feel comfortable while memorizing them..
If we return to the origin of Halloween, where it first arised, the date October 31st is the end of the summer season and harvest period in a year in Celtic culture, so called Samhain.. Sometimes i am thinking myself, if the humanity and the world we are living on it is also nearing its end of the harvest period slowly slowly in its own life cycle? There is also the reality of unfair distribution of the incomes that causes some people cant reach to enough food.. However, to find a solution for the need of accomodation of the increasing population, which is another basic need of humanity, there is more and more reduction in agricultural areas every year.. So, no place remains for neither agricultural production, nor animal husbandry.. Thus the frequent food crisis are happening.. When we add also the effect of global warming, the pace of the run down is hurrying up..
Few years ago the rice crisis arised from Thailand reached even our kitchens.. Due to the global world conditions, even some countries that most of the people cannot find on the maps, have affected us in finding the basic food needs, especially the raw materials.. Furthermore it happens more and more frequently.. The world became smaller as it is globalised, markets became closer as it is smaller, the foreign hands entering our pockets increased as the markets are closer, and naturally this changed our welfare negatively..
Due to the burned Russian forests last summer, the increase of the wheat prices made our bread smaller; the South America origin Tuta Absoluta parasitic that is bothering tomato, made this vegetable we like 4-5 times more expensive compared to last year, and causing almost not using in our meals.. And the most interesting among all, a cattle cows producer country, Turkey, became an importer of animals from countries such as Hungary, Uruguay or Jordan..

Then the scarcity of oil will follow.. However, the system is still forcing people to use oil and other fossil fuels which is a known fact that they will end in a soon future.. Why not using wind and solar energy instead? Why are the new generations addicted for years to the fruit and vegetables whose genetic has been changed?

As it seems, the world and the people living on it is nearing to the end of the harvest period.. A kind of Halloween is starting for our planet.. Samhain is already on the way from the Otherworld, it is any moment he will arrive.. He will test us, the mortals, with the dark winter he will bring.. But, i am afraid this time neither the mask we will wear, nor a handful amount of sweets we will put in front of the door, or the jack-o-lanterns will be able to svae us from the harm of Samhain.. As long as the greed policies away from share and equality will continue; we will be just some few good spirits that can pass the door and will be memorized by our grandchildren in the following October 31sts..
